Preparing to be a Helpmeet
By: Debi Pearl

Being a good help meet starts long before marriage. It is a mindset, a learned habit, a way of life established as a young unmarried girl—or at least that’s the way it should be. It is the older women who have experienced the joys of a good marriage whom God has appointed to pass along his instructions. That is what Debi Pearl has done in this new book.

Description as written by Debi Pearl

Nearly every wife will confess that the first year or two of married life was…how shall I say it…a frustrating learning experience. Most girls spend plenty of time planning for their wedding, but make no preparation for the weeks and years to follow. Many wives are provoked to bitterness during the first year and never get over it. All this could so easily be avoided with simple instruction. It was with good reason God said let the aged women teach the younger. Trial and error is not the best teacher when it comes to marriage. It is much less painful to learn beforehand what God has to say about your role as a help meet to that special man God will bring into your life. It is the older women who have experienced the joys of a good marriage whom God has appointed to pass along his instructions. That is what I have done in this new book Preparing To Be A Help Meet.

Within the pages of this book, discover practical, biblical solutions for the young woman who wants to do so much more than just “survive” in a savagely feministic, anti-Christian culture. Find the answers a girl is not likely to get from her church, her peers, or her culture.

Preparing To Be A Help Meet contains six sweet love stories written by wives sharing their experiences about how God taught them to be the help meets they are today. Three of the stories are from wives that have been married over 40 years. Three stories are by new brides who, before marriage, were trained to be the help meet God intended. All the love stories are beautiful, and will show you how wonderful it is to walk together in God’s light.

In addition to the six personal testimonies, this book is full of short stories from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. Funny tales, ideas of how to gain a good man’s attention, and even a tragic testimony all teach important lessons. You will meet “Grabbers” and “Hidden Flowers”, and discover how to avoid being either. The chapter on “Antsy Babes” will remind you why patience is so important. You will be warned as you read stories of how texting, emailing and other forms of cyberspace have destroyed many budding relationships and even marriages.

An important part of this book is instruction on preparing for your future by saving money, developing skills, gathering information on cooking, health, and many other topics. Girls will see how one wise young woman planned her wedding God’s way. Along the way the reader will learn what to pack in her Heavenly Hope Chest.

A shy girl—Hidden Flower—who has never had a man interested in her, will learn how to become visible to godly men. Brassy girls—Grabbers—will be shown a mirror so they will see how good men view pushy females. Impatient girls—Antsy Babes—will learn patience.

Girls will be instructed on how young men seek out a wife and what they are looking for in a possible mate. They will discover what turns young men away and what causes a young man to consider a girl. In the last chapter, several men speak up to say what they really appreciate in their wives. And of course, several single, wife-hunting males speak out here and there to give their opinion of what I have written.

On a more sober note, the age-old question, “How do I know if this man is the will of God for me?” will be answered through Scripture, wisdom, and example.

As I was finishing the manuscript, three young women read and evaluated Preparing To Be A Help Meet. They all said the book was captivating and that they would be better daughters and wives for having read it. Several married women who read the rough manuscript said of this new book that any lady that enjoyed Created To Be His Help Meet will LOVE Preparing To Be A Help Meet and they will learn as much from it as they did from Created.

As the author, I believe the girl or married woman who reads Preparing To Be A Help Meet will close the book knowing that God answers prayer, that He wants to bless her and that marriage God’s way is indeed glorious.

At the back of the book, my daughter Shalom Pearl Brand put together an extensive Teacher’s Guide. Shalom and Kristen Abart taught a girls’ Preparing To Be A Help Meet class last winter using the book’s draft as it was being written. Through the teaching of the Word the girls grew into righteous young women. Some of the girls said they just didn’t understand that God meant for them to start being a Proverbs 31 female NOW, training to be a help meet before becoming one. Shalom used the notes from her class to put together the Teacher’s Guide. It has ice breakers to get the girls laughing and talking, questions from the chapter they are studying, verses to look up to see what God requires, and challenges to obey God. Anyone with a heart to do so could use these step by step directions to teach a Help Meet class for singles or married ladies.

Even a young man reading this book can come to better understand how girls think and how better to approach a girl for marriage. So if any of you young men are wondering how… read and see!

Move over, Created…here comes Preparing To Be A Help Meet.

What He Must Be: ...If He Wants to Marry My Daughter
By: Voddie T. Baucham Jr.

All parents want their daughters to marry godly young men. But which qualities, specifically, should they be looking for?

What will you say when that certain young man sits down in your living room, sweaty-palmed and tongue-tied, and asks your permission to marry your daughter? What criteria should he meet before the two of them join together for life? What He Must Be… If He Wants to Marry My Daughter outlines ten qualities parents should look for in a son-in-law, including trustworthiness, a willingness to lead his family, an understanding of his wife’s role, and various spiritual leadership qualities.

Fortunately, God has given us a clear picture of the role of the husband/father in the home, and in What He Must Be...If He Wants to Marry My Daughter Voddie Baucham breaks this picture down into ten desirable qualities. Not only should parents of young women seek these qualities in a son in law, but parents of young men should strive to cultivate these qualities in their sons.

Author Voddie Baucham follows up on his popular book Family Driven Faith with this compelling apologetic of biblical manhood. By studying the principles outlined in his book, parents who want their daughter to marry a godly man—as well as those who want their sons to become godly men—will be well equipped to help their children look for and develop these God-honoring qualities.

“Voddie Baucham believes that fathers have a significant responsibility to protect and guide their daughters as they prepare for marriage. One need not agree with everything in this book to benefit greatly from the practical wisdom contained in its pages. As the father of two teenage daughters, I plan to keep this book close at hand.” - Andreas Kostenberger, author, God, Marriage & Family

So Much More
Remarkable Influence Of Visionary Daughters On The Kingdom Of God
By: Anna Sofia Botkin and Elizabeth Botkin

This book is not another Christian-teenage-girl “survival guide.” So Much More shows how Christian girls can wage war with the world and win. The Botkin sisters focus on how young women can rise above their God-hating culture and change it for the better.

Today, countless young ladies face difficult problems and challenging questions. While many long for godly purpose in their lives, their bewilderment mounts when they observe broken homes, distant fathers, overwhelmed mothers, degrading college courses, and a lack of spiritual guidance — both at home and at church. As hope for security and stability fades, it is no wonder that many young ladies feel orphaned, unprotected, and without hope for their futures.

Within the pages of this book, discover practical, biblical solutions for the young woman who wants to do so much more than just “survive” in a savagely feministic, anti-Christian culture. Find the answers a girl is not likely to get from her church, her peers, or her culture.

There is so much more to say about this book!!

This was an important, life-changing book for me because it addresses the core of rebellion: the failure of a daughter to depend upon and embrace her father. The father-daughter relationship is paramount to becoming a healthy, happy, and powerful woman in society and the home. Anna Sofia and Elizabeth do an excellent job of describing how women, influenced by feminism, have been looking for power in all the wrong places. This book is a principal reference for me on the topics of women being educated, women in missions, and women in noble vocation. This book has direct significance for young ladies in Christian and non-Christian homes alike. As Created to Be His Helpmeet is our favorite illustration of submission for married women, so this book is our favorite illustration for unmarried ones. I could say So Much More about this book, but I will leave it at saying that after EVERY chapter I was conviced to PRAY, fiercely and reverently, for the fathers in my life and also conviced to repent for my own rebellious actions.

Beautiful Girlhood
Revised by: Karen Andreola (original by Mabel Hale)

This revised 1922 classic offers gentle guidance for preteen and teenage girls on how to become a godly woman. Full of charm and sentiment, it will help mother and daughter establish a comfortable rapport for discussions about building character, friendships, obedience, high ideals, a cheerful spirit, modest dress, a pure heart, and a consecrated life.

The revised version by Karen Andreola. This is the same book published in 1940 but has some minor language changes so the reader does not have such a hard time understanding it.

This book, provides timeless guidelines for living a life that is pleasing to God. It brings young ladies out of the world back into Biblical principles and lifestyle. It has practical advice and makes you think about how you present yourself to the world, and how you represent Christ, and how you are the bride of Christ. This book will help mothers pass on to their daughters, a life of modesty, chastity, purity, and of godly womanhood.

This book is for mothers to read, then read it with your daughter. It will be a catalyst for a wonderful intimate time with your daughter. Beautiful Girlhood could change your life and the way you view your womanhood.

Beautiful Girlhood is a book worth going through with your daughter. I have Mabel Hale's original and my daughter has Karen Andreola's revised copy. Both are good copies and quite enjoyable. My daughter wanted the newer copy because she likes to make notes and highlights throughout the chapters. I think that's a great way to make Beautiful Girlhood more personal.

We usually go to our local grocery store, with a coffee shop built inside. I buy a container of juice (much less expensive than a $4.00 cup of coffee) and a cookie or a donut. We get a couple of cups from the coffee shop and chat a little before we start. (It helps to befriend the coffee shop employees). After we have chatted a bit and caught up with each other, we pray or start with our chapter.

We discuss examples and pieces that spoke to us. I am surprised at the wonderful questions the chapters spur in a young girls mind. The author really gives you important ideas to think about. Each chapter gives heartfelt, noble lessons that we have both enjoyed. It has opened doors for subjects that I normally wouldn't think about discussing, but want to teach to my girls.

Beautiful Girlhood has been a blessing for both my daughter and me. I would love for every mama and her girl to go through this book. Maybe we would have more feminine girls instead of feminist girls.

The Garden Wall
A Story of Love Based on I Corinthians 13
By Jennie Bishop

From the author of Princess and the Kiss and the Squire and the scroll, Jennie Bishop brings us another fabulous story based on 1 Corinthians 13.

The Garden Wall

In this engaging children's story, healthy friendship grows into committed love as Seth and Petra build a beautiful Garden and the wall that protects it. Based on the words of 1 Corinthians 13, use this book to open doors of communication with your children as you teach them important lessons regarding healthy, loving relationships.

The warm sun falls on Petra's smiling faced as she breathes in the delicious smells of roses, daisies, pansies, and forget-me-nots. What could be more beautiful than a flower? Petra announces to her friend Seth, that she wants to grow her own garden. He agrees to help her by building a wall to protect the delicate flowers from harm. But its not as easy as they think. Some times they don't get along, and the work is even harder than the imagined.

Will they give up? Will the flowers bloom? Can their friendship last when disaster strikes the garden? The answers lie within Petra and Seth, and within the Garden Wall.

This book provides the foundation for many lessons that you can discuss with your children. As the story progresses, you will see how healthy friendship grows into committed love as Seth and Petra build a beautiful garden and the wall that protects it.

The roles and men and women are are gently but clearly portrayed to support the idea of the Biblical, lifetime pairing of one man and one woman. Using the garden as a parable of growing love Jennie Bishop uses the story to teach how to protect and nurture a friendship as it grows in to a committed relationship.

Life Lessons from The Squire and the Scroll
By Jennie Bishop with Susan Henson

Picking up where the The Squire and the Scroll by Jennie Bishop left off, this easy-to-use devotional covers biblical teachings on purity, integrity, and God's plan for relationships with your child in a non-threatening and age-appropriate way. These life lessons are packed with wisdom from God's word, truths that young men need to know as they navigate the paths that lead to an adult life of integrity and honor. You and your son can build a godly heritage with these short, practical, life-changing studies and activities that can be personalized for any age. An optional "Squires of the Lantern Ceremony" is also included as an exciting and memorable way to formally celebrate your son's growth.

It isn't too early to teach your son about these issues. Too many of our young squires have been lost for the kingdom because they where ill prepared for the challenges ahead. Our culture creates an environment where innocence is easily lost at an early age. But it doesn't have to be the away. We can teach our sons how to guard their hearts when they are very young so that when temptation comes they will be able to stand up against it.

There are 21 Life lessons taken from the book The Squire and the Scroll by Jennie Bishop . These lessons present an idea taken from the book and a short discussion about that idea. It helps the young squire with scripture and a “Squires Prayer” to help guide him in talking to God about what he has just learned. For each lesson there is also a “Creative Squire Adventure” which is creative interactive ideas to reinforce the lesson. There is a “Hero of the Faith” example, and “ Battle plans,” along with questions to meditate on to drive the lessons home.

Some of the lessons that are covered are, Choosing to Serve the King, Protecting Your Purity, Accepting the Protection of Authority, Choosing Friends Wisely, Protecting Ladies Hearts, and much more.

At the end of the book there is the Parents Compass: A guide for the parents to help their young squire through the book.

Created To Be His Help Meet
Debi Pearl

Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested: that is, some books are to be read only in parts, others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention. Sir Francis Bacon English author, courtier, & philosopher (1561 - 1626)

"I have never reviewed such an incredible, life-changing book" Deborah Wuehler, The Old Schoolhouse Magazine

Somewhere over the passing years and changing culture women have lost their way. This book is written to lead them back home. Regardless of how you began your marriage or how dark and lonely the path that has brought you to where you are now, I want you to know that it is possible today to have a marriage so good and so fulfilling that it can only be explained as a miracle.

In Titus 2 where God commands the aged women to teach the younger women, I have obeyed and given you my very best - 24 chapters, 291 pages, from meal planning to sex, including letters from my readers, recounting counseling sessions, wisdom gleaned from my own daughters, my very own personal experience and, of course, the Word of God (524 Scripture references). Debi Pearl, Author

The Pearls worked together on this book to provide sound biblical principles and wise guidance. Our marriage was as good as gold...so I thought. I had no idea the hardship I was inflecting on my husband until I read this book. I repented and took the scriptures at truth for today. Wowzier! What a difference it made. I changed immediately and Ron responded so quickly and sweetly that my heart melts for him. This book is capable of changing any Christian marriage. It has so much wisdom packed in it that I am surprised it is a short as it is. Honestly, this is a book to drink deeply, be savored and absorbed into ones bloodstream of life. There would be many less divorces if women read this and was willing to save their marriages. If the divorce papers are not signed, it's not too late. If they are signed, there is still hope. I would love to see God raise up Christian women being the happy wives and mothers he created us to be. If you read this book, may it bless you as deeply as it has blessed me. May you find freedom in being a Godly wife and mother. May your children, husband, friends, and strangers rise up and call you blessed. And you will be. Dawn Wright, Before The Kiss.com

This book has taken on a life of it’s own. It seems to be a catalyst for a new movement of strengthening the marriage. This is one of the most passed around books I have seen in a long time. Women are buying multiple copies to give to their friends as gifts. I am seeing it change many marriages for the better. This book is prefect for a married woman who wants the best for her marriage, and the woman who is not married yet to prepare to have a stronger, happier marriage. Ron Wright, Before The Kiss.com

The Help Meet's Journey
By Debi Pearl

Wait till you get your hands on this one! The Help Meet's Journey: A Yearly Companion Journal/workbook for Created to be His Help Meet is a beautifully done three ring binder to go along with the powerful book Created to be His Help Meet by Debi Pearl . Created to be His Help Meet is one of my favorite books because of how it changed the way I read the bible, my outlook on my life, and the care I took for my marriage, home and children. I am free to be the woman God created for my husband, unashamed. (Please keep in mind that I am not perfect and I do not have it all figured out. I'm trying, for Christ's sake, but I, like most, need work.) Anyway, The Help Meets Journey is so beautifully done that I am drawn to it and I despise workbooks. It is filled with study pages and diary pages to go along with the chapters. There are pages for your own stories, artwork/doodles, thoughts and pictures to make this a very special journal. The Chapters are short (I love that) and the pages nicely decorated (I like pictures, too). Because of the various aspects of this journal, I think it can appeal to all women for an extra enjoyable journey. It can be used for study groups and personal use. Because it is a three ring binder one can add to it personal pages. So, I have a copy pulled out and set to the side for myself. Me! I am the kind of woman who runs from workbooks and I want one. Dear me! BTW, the three ring binder is the half page binder size. The binder is a nice compact size binder, not one that is big and bulky. Dawn Wright , Before the Kiss. 123 Pages Hard cover

Priest, Prophet, and King
Restoring Biblical Leadership in the Home
Keith Hoffman

We believe God created the family as the primary building block for Christian growth. Within the home, God has ordained the husband as the spiritual leader of the family. We live in a culture that has wandered far from God's plan, and the family, even Christian families, have suffered the consequences. To build strong families, we must equip and train Christian husbands to serve their wife and children following His plan.

Priest, Prophet, and King. is written as a culmination of more than one year of research. It presents clear and convincing biblical patterns for a husband's spiritual leadership roles, responsibilities, and duties within the home. There is no pop-psychology here. Every pattern is directly drawn from a plethora of Scriptural references. Although the husband's role has drifted in our culture, God's model for building strong families is unchanging and true.

Building a family does not happen by chance, it requires a lifetime of dedication and hard work. Shaping a family, like constructing a house, is not a random process. If we hope to be successful, we must follow a plan.

Profusely backed with scripture, Priest, Prophet, and King unveils the Master Architect's original plans for leading and loving your family. This pattern, originally displayed to ancient Israel and perfected in Christ, extends to heads of households today. The Father calls husbands to lead and love their family in the same way as Christ does the Church - by being priest, prophet, and king to their household.

If you wish to provide the loving leadership of Christ to your household, Priest, Prophet, and King reveals the attributes, roles, and duties that will bathe your family in the love and covering of Christ.

To Train Up a Child
Michael & Debi Pearl

As I was growing up, I was rarely spanked or disciplined.  My mother never spanked any of us.  She yelled and called names.  My father would spank with his hand (I have had so many back problems and I can't help but wonder).  He also called us names or insulted us.  I didn't respect my parents or those in authority.  I was wild, foolish and spoiled.  My teen years are full of heartache, regret and disappointment.  As an adult I had trouble accepting life as it came.  I spent time depressed.  It is much harder to grow up, on your own, as an adult than with help and guidance, as a child.  I didn't want my children to suffer as I did.  I wanted them to be successful as adults.  I wanted them to be mature, adjusted and wise by the time they left my husbands protection.  I was scared.  I prayed.

To Train Up a Child by Mike and Debi Pearl is a book full of good wisdom and biblical principles.  The first time I read it I thought the Pearls harsh, but with my loving touch I could make it work.  The book offered good advice on many things.  I put some of their teachings to work.  Wonderful results followed and I had a happier home and a happier child.  Another child later and I had put aside much of what the Pearls taught due to newness and busyness.  I sought out their book again (after reading Created to be His Help Meet by Debi Pearl ) and saw it in a different light.  I discovered Mike and Debi's humor which I had thought was harshness years ago.  It was a totally different read.  I viewed a video with Mike speaking and got further insight to his and Debi's humor.  He really is a funny man and she a funny lady and I believed they thoroughly loved their children in a godly manner.  I don't see them as harsh in child rearing anymore.  What a relief!  I get comments from friends, family and out in public on a regular basis about how well behaved, happy and friendly my kids are.  Don't get me wrong, they are not perfect, almost, but not quite. Ha!  That's a mom for you.  I still let them get away with too much, but I'm not perfect either.  Still working on it.

I must add that the Pearl 's view on the King James Version is a little too deep for me.  I am not a KJV follower.  I enjoy many versions and have to admit, KJV is not high on my list of favorites.

Holy Sex
Michael Pearl

If you don't think God meant for sex to be fun, this book is for you.

Holy Sex is a book for married couples.  Sometimes as I would read the bible I would feel a little embarrassed by how some of the scriptures referred to sex and God and body parts and pleasure.  Not to be prudish, but sex was not a beautiful thing as I grew up.  The 70's were the time for the free sex revolution and it has only worsened since then.  I became a Christian in my mid-twenties.  By that time I had been flooded by sex being passionate and dirty...and dirty was fun.  After becoming a Christian I went through the phase of what was considered "religious sex" for a Christian couple.  Reading Holy Sex I came to the point of realizing the God is also a sexually minded being.  Meaning, if God sees Jerusalem as a young virgin maid (bride) and he as a man (bride-groom) (brides and bride-grooms see each other as the one they will make love to after the formalities are out of the way) than it's a normal thing, and sex must be normal.  Sex must be not only normal, but good.  We all know that in our heads, but do we know that in our hearts.  Do we really accept it?  Mike and Debi Pearl shed new light on the marriage bed and God's view of his lover.

On the other hand, I must add that the Pearl 's view on the King James Version is a little too deep for me.  I am not a KJV follower.  I enjoy many versions and have to admit, KJV is not high on my list of favorites. Dawn at Before the Kiss

Here is a warning taken from the opening of the book.

Stop! This material is intended for mature audiences. Don't read this book unless you are married, have definite plans to be married in the next few weeks or you are an older teenager whose parents have first read it and approve of you doing so.
